SHREVEPORT, La. – Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) is expanding its long-standing partnership with Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) to advance workforce training and support economic growth across the region.
Through a $15,000 contribution from the SWEPCO Foundation, NLTCC will enhance programs that connect students with technical career opportunities and strengthen local industry ties. The funding is part of SWEPCO’s broader effort to collaborate with educational institutions that are preparing Louisiana’s future workforce.
“Our relationship with NLTCC is about more than just workforce training—it’s about building something lasting for Northwest Louisiana,” said William Bradford, vice president of external affairs at SWEPCO. “When we invest in education and local partnerships, we’re helping lay the groundwork for economic growth that benefits everyone.”
The partnership has produced initiatives such as the Lineworker Certification Program, which provides students with hands-on experience and a pathway into utility careers. The program reflects SWEPCO’s focus on practical, industry-informed education that aligns with community needs.
SWEPCO’s commitment to education was recently recognized by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, which presented Michael Corbin, SWEPCO’s external affairs manager, with the Joe D. May Public Policy Award for contributions to workforce development.
Dr. Jayda Spillers, chancellor of NLTCC, said SWEPCO’s engagement has a direct impact on student success. “SWEPCO understands the importance of investing in people and places,” Spillers said. “Their partnership helps us stay aligned with what our students and our communities need to succeed.”
SWEPCO plans to continue building partnerships that strengthen local talent pipelines and help communities adapt to a changing energy industry. The company supports technical training, policy advocacy and regional collaboration to ensure students are equipped for skilled careers that contribute to long-term economic growth.
