SHREVEPORT, LA — SporTran officially opened its newest facility in downtown Shreveport on Wednesday, May 28, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of public transportation across the region.
Located at the corner of Murphy and Texas Streets, the new multi-modal resource center occupies the historic former Sun Furniture building. City officials, community leaders, and transportation advocates gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the transformation of the iconic structure into a modern hub for transit operations and public engagement.
Now branded as SporTran City, the facility features a state-of-the-art Operational Control Center, an employee training simulator, wellness areas, retail spaces, and a public food court with three vendor stalls.
“Welcome to SporTran City,” said Dinero Washington, CEO of SporTran. “The future of transit in Shreveport. Today is more than just a ribbon cutting—it’s a celebration of vision, community, and movement. SporTran City represents progress. It’s where innovation meets inclusion—where every route leads not just across the city, but toward opportunity.”
The new hub is expected to revitalize downtown Shreveport by enhancing transit service and increasing accessibility for local residents and visitors alike.
Louis Johnson, public information officer for Bossier City, attended the event on behalf of Mayor Thomas Chandler. “We feel that SporTran is a very vital part of both communities,” said Johnson. “We are very appreciative of the services it provides for the citizens of Bossier and those in need of transportation. With the opening of this hub today, it’s an advancement that benefits both cities, and Bossier City is proud to take part.”
Following the ceremony, attendees were invited on a guided tour of the facility, highlighting its advanced technologies and customer-focused amenities. SporTran officials emphasized that the new space reflects their continued mission to “move the community forward—together.”
