BOSSIER CITY, La. — U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson toured the Cyber Innovation Center on Dec. 22 to observe how its partnership with Air Force Global Strike Command is driving technological innovation and improving mission readiness.
The visit highlighted STRIKEWERX, the innovation hub for Air Force Global Strike Command, which works with the Cyber Innovation Center to develop new defense technologies and streamline operations. Since 2017, the partnership has generated more than $300 million in savings for the Air Force, according to CIC President Kevin Nolten.
“The CIC and STRIKEWERX leverage space, talent, and resources to foster collaboration between industry and government, driving innovation that solves the toughest challenges faced by the backbone of the Air Force and the joint force,” Nolten said.
During the tour, Johnson received a demonstration from HIVE, an advanced modeling and simulation capability developed through CIC and STRIKEWERX. HIVE uses data integration and analytics to deliver real-time insight into mission planning and execution, supporting faster and more informed decision-making.
“It is exciting to see the critical work the CIC is doing to support the U.S. Air Force, all from my district in Bossier City,” Johnson said. “The CIC has truly been a force multiplier for America’s national defense, and I am grateful for their work alongside Air Force Global Strike Command to develop innovative new technologies that enhance our national defense and promote global stability.”
The demonstration, hosted by Air Force Global Strike Command staff, showcased how HIVE’s wargaming software models complex defense scenarios, evaluates trade-offs, and supports acquisition and fielding decisions. Federal efforts are underway to transition HIVE into a standalone capability.
Following the presentation, Johnson met with representatives from Barksdale Forward, Bossier Parish, and the City of Bossier City to discuss continued support for Barksdale Air Force Base and Louisiana’s defense community.
Russ Mathers, director of STRIKEWERX, said the center remains focused on advancing nuclear mission capabilities through data-driven innovation. “AFGSC’s long-range nuclear and conventional strike capabilities form the foundation of every DoW operation, and we’re committed to ensuring they remain ‘Always Ready,’” Mathers said.
The Cyber Innovation Center serves as the anchor of the National Cyber Research Park in Bossier City and supports collaboration among government, academic, and industry partners to accelerate technology development and workforce growth.
