SHREVEPORT, La. — Shriners Children’s Shreveport will break ground Wednesday on a new two-story, 43,000-square-foot facility designed to support its outpatient model of pediatric specialty care.
The new facility will be built at the corner of Kings Highway and Samford Avenue, across from the organization’s current location at 3100 Samford Ave. Shriners Children’s has maintained a presence in Shreveport for 104 years, beginning with the establishment of its first location in the Shriners Children’s system in 1922.
Construction of the new building represents a continued investment in the health care system’s Shreveport operations and is intended to better accommodate its outpatient services. The facility is expected to open in spring 2028.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Representatives from Shriners Children’s are expected to give remarks during the event.
Officials scheduled to attend include Dr. Leslie D. Stewart, chairman of the Shriners Children’s Board of Trustees; Lawrence J. “Larry” Leib, international president and chairman of the board of directors of Shriners International and Shriners Children’s; Bryan Moore, chairman of the Shriners Children’s Shreveport Board of Governors; and Mel Bower, chief marketing and communications officer for Shriners Children’s.
Melayna, a Shriners Children’s Shreveport patient ambassador, also is scheduled to participate.
Shriners Children’s provides pediatric specialty care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and other conditions. The nonprofit health care system also conducts research and provides educational programs for medical professionals.
