SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport Regional Airport will stage a full-scale emergency disaster drill Wednesday morning, simulating an aircraft accident with multiple agencies participating.
The exercise, scheduled for 9 a.m., will involve the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana State Police, Barksdale Air Force Base, and emergency responders from Shreveport and Caddo Parish. The airport will remain open for normal operations during the drill.
The scenario will include a simulated airplane crash, passenger extractions, triage, and hospital coordination for mass casualty treatment. Local hospitals will take part by practicing patient intake and care during the mock event.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires commercial service airports to conduct such exercises every three years to maintain compliance with federal safety regulations. Officials said the drill is intended to evaluate response times, coordination, and the effectiveness of existing emergency plans.
