SHREVEPORT, La. — Average gasoline prices in Shreveport fell 21.7 cents per gallon over the past week to $3.64 per gallon, according to a survey of 177 stations conducted by GasBuddy and released Monday.
The average price is 14.1 cents lower than a month ago but remains $1.01 higher than the same period last year. Nationally, gasoline prices declined 19.5 cents per gallon during the past week to an average of $4.26 per gallon. The national average is down 17.8 cents from a month ago but is $1.18 higher than a year ago.
GasBuddy reported that the lowest-priced station in Shreveport was selling gasoline for $3.36 per gallon on Sunday, while the highest-priced station charged $4.09 per gallon, a spread of 73 cents. Across Louisiana, prices ranged from a low of $3.23 per gallon to a high of $4.99 per gallon.
The national average price of diesel fuel fell 15.5 cents from the previous week to $5.437 per gallon.
Among neighboring markets, average gasoline prices in Little Rock declined 15.0 cents per gallon to $3.89, while Dallas prices fell 30.5 cents to $3.74 per gallon. Louisiana’s statewide average decreased 16.7 cents to $3.80 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said lower oil prices and the easing of recent fuel price cycles contributed to the nationwide decline. He noted that optimism surrounding a potential agreement between the United States and Iran helped reduce concerns about global oil supplies, while diesel prices also posted significant declines.
However, De Haan cautioned that fuel markets remain vulnerable to geopolitical developments. He said oil prices moved higher Sunday evening amid continued uncertainty surrounding negotiations with Iran and renewed Israeli military activity, factors that could reverse recent price declines if supply concerns intensify.
