SHREVEPORT, La. — Average gasoline prices in Shreveport dropped 4.5 cents per gallon over the past week, averaging $2.42 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 177 stations in the area. Local prices are 13.9 cents lower than a month ago and 12.0 cents lower than a year ago.
Diesel prices nationally increased 4.7 cents last week, reaching an average of $3.64 per gallon.
GasBuddy reported the cheapest station in Shreveport at $2.21 per gallon Sunday, while the most expensive was $2.89, a difference of 68 cents. Across Louisiana, prices ranged from $2.19 to $3.79 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline rose 2.5 cents last week to $3.00 per gallon. The national average is down 10.8 cents from a month ago and 7.4 cents from a year ago, based on GasBuddy data from more than 150,000 stations.
In neighboring areas, average prices stood at $2.54 in Little Rock, up 3.3 cents from last week; $2.62 in Dallas, up 15.8 cents; and $2.55 in Louisiana statewide, down 2.5 cents.
“The national average saw a slight rise over the last week, as gas prices surged in parts of the Midwest after a refinery fire pushed wholesale gasoline prices sharply higher in the region,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “While the spike in prices in affected areas was significant, relief is likely in the weeks ahead as the situation stabilizes.”
De Haan added that optimism around a potential U.S.-China trade deal could support oil prices in the short term, potentially keeping the national average above $3 per gallon before falling again ahead of Thanksgiving.
Over the past decade, average prices in Shreveport have ranged from a low of $1.96 per gallon in 2015 to a high of $3.19 in 2022.
