SHREVEPORT, La. – Average gasoline prices in Shreveport have fallen 11.2 cents per gallon over the past week, reaching $2.49 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s latest survey of 177 stations. Prices in the area are 22.4 cents lower than a month ago and 18.2 cents below levels recorded a year earlier.
The city’s lowest reported price on Sunday was $2.32 per gallon, while the highest was $2.99—a 67-cent spread. Across Louisiana, prices ranged from $2.26 to $3.79 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline fell 6.4 cents over the week to $3.02 per gallon. The national average is down 13.7 cents from a month ago and 14.4 cents lower than this time last year. Diesel prices also declined, dropping 3.5 cents to $3.63 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said falling oil prices and broad declines across most states could soon push the national average below $3. “Americans appear to be on the cusp of seeing the national average drop below $3 per gallon for the first time in years,” De Haan said. “With wages up and gas prices down, Americans are spending the smallest share of their paycheck on gasoline in many years.”
In neighboring areas, average prices stand at $2.57 per gallon in Little Rock, $2.66 in Dallas, and $2.63 across Louisiana overall.
Historical GasBuddy data show that Shreveport’s current average is the lowest October price in four years. Ten years ago, drivers were paying $2.03 per gallon locally and $2.30 nationally.
