SHREVEPORT, LA – After weeks of climbing or holding steady, average gasoline prices in Shreveport have posted a noticeable decline. According to GasBuddy’s latest survey of 177 stations in the area, prices have dropped 7.3 cents per gallon over the past week, with the local average now standing at $2.66 per gallon. That’s still about 5.9 cents higher than a month ago but 37.5 cents lower than this time last year.
Across Louisiana, the average sits at $2.75/g, down 4.8 cents from last week. Diesel prices have also seen a reprieve, with the national average for diesel fuel falling 4.8 cents to $3.546/g.
“Gas prices have posted a notable weekly decline, with nearly every state seeing prices fall,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “It’s increasingly likely that gas prices have already hit their high for the year.”
What’s Driving the Dip?
Experts point to a mix of global and seasonal factors:
- U.S. tariffs are causing market uncertainty.
- OPEC+ has ramped up production, helping bring oil prices down.
- Seasonal refinery maintenance is wrapping up, increasing supply as summer gasoline blends are phased in.
These shifts are reflected nationally, where the average price for regular gas is $3.13/g, down 8.2 cents from last week. This puts the national average nearly 47 cents lower than a year ago.
