SHREVEPORT, La. – The Shreveport Airport Authority has been awarded $881,000 in federal funding to enhance safety at Shreveport Downtown Airport, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy announced this week. The grant, secured through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, will fund the installation of 13,650 feet of wildlife fencing and eight security gates around the airfield.
The improvements are part of a broader effort by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to support critical infrastructure upgrades at regional airports across the state.
“Airports are often the first impression visitors have when traveling to Louisiana,” said Senator Cassidy. “These projects will make Louisiana’s airports safer and more reliable while creating jobs and boosting local economies.”
The fencing project at Shreveport Downtown Airport aims to reduce the risk of wildlife-related incidents and improve operational safety at one of the area’s key general aviation hubs. The funding represents a significant investment in the airport’s continued development and supports its role in serving both business and recreational aviation traffic in Northwest Louisiana.
A smaller portion of the total grant funding also includes $84,000 allocated to the City of Hammond for taxiway and apron rehabilitation at Hammond Northshore Regional Airport.
