(The Center Square) – Scammers pretending to be law enforcement officers to get money from residents is increasing, police in Bossier City say.
According to the department, people are posing as officers and contacting residents in Bossier by phone, email and fake webpages for money.
The Center Square was unsuccessful prior to publication getting comment from the Police Department.
A release from the department said the scam callers are claiming those falling victim to the calls are being told they have outstanding warrants, failed to appear for required jury duty, or owe fines. The people making the calls are threatening to arrest if payment isn’t received and using fake caller IDs in order for the call to appear real.
“The scammers may also request payment via unconventional methods like gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency, which are red flags for fraudulent activity,” said Public Information Officer Sgt. Shawn Poudrier in the release.
This is not the first time in Bossier. In July, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office issued a warning of scam callers trying to get money from residents claiming they have missed jury duty and now have a federal warrant.
Back in 2024, the Sheriff’s Office also warned residents of a scam caller posing as Sgt. Brian Collins. The caller in 2024 was also trying to solicit money for the failure to pay fines.
There was also a warning issued back in 2021 for the same issue.
Bossier City police urged residents who might receive these calls that officers will not ask for payment or threaten arrest by phone.
