26,935 Volunteers Join Statewide Effort in All 64 Parishes
Baton Rouge, La. — In a powerful demonstration of civic pride and environmental stewardship, 26,935 Louisianans participated in the 2025 Love the Boot Week, removing a record-setting 514 tons of litter from roadsides, waterways, parks, and public spaces across all 64 parishes.
Organized by Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) and supported by Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, the initiative has become Louisiana’s largest litter removal and beautification campaign, growing 39% in volunteer participation and 47% in event count compared to the previous year.
“Litter negatively impacts our environment, our economy, and our quality of life,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “Thank you to the thousands who stepped up. We need to keep the momentum going.”
Statewide Impact by the Numbers:
- 1,408 events held
- 81,852 volunteer hours logged
- $2.4 million in volunteer value (based on Independent Sector’s $29.14/hour rate)
- 16,503 plastic bottles and cans recycled
- 1,204 trees and 3,672 plants planted
- 477 gardens refurbished
Broad-Based Participation
This year’s effort included volunteers from:
- 31 colleges and universities
- 171 K-12 schools
- 117 businesses
- 286 nonprofit organizations
- 271 government entities
- Plus hundreds of individual and family groups
“Love the Boot Week has become a movement,” said Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB. “Let’s love the boot year-round and adopt good habits that prevent litter from happening in the first place.”
Public-Private Support
The campaign was powered by a wide coalition of corporate, civic, and tourism sponsors, including Coca-Cola, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Cox Communications, ExxonMobil, Lamar Advertising, Visit Jefferson Parish, The Advocate-Times-Picayune, and many others.
KLB continues to drive education and engagement throughout the year through programs like:
- Get Down & Clean Up – Litter cleanup supplies available at public libraries
- Clean Biz Partnership – Corporate litter reduction initiative
