BATON ROUGE, La. – The qualifying period for the March 29, 2025, Municipal Primary Election begins this week, running from January 29 through January 31.
Local candidates must file their paperwork and fees with their parish Clerk of Court, while judicial candidates for specific courts will qualify at the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office in Baton Rouge.
Where and How to Qualify
Candidates may qualify by:
- Paying a qualifying fee, or
- Submitting a nominating petition.
Those running for local offices should check with their parish Clerk of Court for office hours and specific procedures. Once qualified, candidates will appear on the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.la.gov.
Candidates for state-level judicial offices in the following districts must qualify in person at the Secretary of State’s Office (8585 Archives Avenue, Baton Rouge):
- Louisiana Supreme Court, Associate Justice (District 3)
- Court of Appeal, 1st Circuit, 2nd District, Subdistrict 2, Division D
The Secretary of State’s Office will be open for qualifying from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Candidates who qualify will be listed on the Secretary of State’s website in real-time.
Candidate Requirements
Per Louisiana Revised Statutes 18:461 and 18:463, candidates must:
- Provide a valid email address, which will be listed on the Secretary of State’s website.
- Present a valid Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana identification card.
