Members of the Bossier City Lions Club gathered for their weekly meeting Thursday, Oct. 30, to hear from guest speaker Eric England, executive director of the Port of Caddo-Bossier, who shared updates about the port’s economic impact, ongoing projects and its vital role in driving growth across Northwest Louisiana.
During the luncheon meeting, England discussed how the Port of Caddo-Bossier continues to serve as a cornerstone for regional economic development, providing hundreds of jobs and supporting major industries through its multimodal transportation network. He highlighted recent developments and expansions at the port, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in infrastructure and workforce readiness to sustain growth.
Located on a 4,000-acre site at the head of navigation on the Red River Waterway, the Port of Caddo-Bossier connects Northwest Louisiana to global markets through barge, rail and truck transport. Established in 1972, the port is jointly owned by Caddo and Bossier parishes and governed by the Caddo-Bossier Port Commission. Its facilities accommodate a wide range of industries — from manufacturing and energy to agriculture and distribution — making it one of the region’s leading economic engines.
England noted that the port’s unique position allows businesses to efficiently move products in and out of the region, lowering shipping costs and attracting companies looking to expand their footprint in Louisiana.
“The port is not just a hub for commerce — it’s a catalyst for opportunity,” he said, emphasizing how partnerships with local communities and educational institutions have helped strengthen the workforce pipeline.
The Port of Caddo-Bossier currently supports more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs and contributes millions annually to the regional economy. Recent expansions have included improvements to terminal infrastructure, warehouse capacity and river access — investments designed to make the port more competitive in an increasingly global market.
Lions Club members expressed appreciation for England’s presentation, noting the importance of understanding how local infrastructure like the port directly impacts Bossier City and surrounding communities.
As the Port of Caddo-Bossier continues to expand its operations and attract new industries, England’s message resonated with attendees: The strength of Northwest Louisiana’s economy depends on collaboration, innovation and a shared vision for long-term growth.
The Bossier City Lions Club, a civic organization dedicated to community service, regularly invites local leaders, business professionals and public officials to speak at its weekly meetings, fostering civic engagement and awareness of key regional issues.
