BATON ROUGE, La. — Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Volunteer Louisiana have officially opened nominations for the 2025 Champions of Service Awards, an annual recognition of exceptional individuals, groups, and businesses dedicated to volunteerism and community service across Louisiana. Nominations will remain open until January 31, 2025.
“Helping your neighbor is an important part of our culture in Louisiana,” said Lieutenant Governor Nungesser. “Thousands of volunteers across our state freely give their time, energy, and talents in service to others. The Champions of Service Awards allow us to shine a light on our incredible volunteer leaders and celebrate their commitment to strengthening Louisiana’s communities.”
The awards celebrate volunteers from seven geographic regions, as well as an outstanding AmeriCorps member and a standout group of volunteers. Honorees will be recognized at a special luncheon on Monday, April 28, 2025, during National Volunteer Week, at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge.
Recognizing Volunteer Impact
Volunteer Louisiana Executive Director Judd Jeansonne highlighted the significant contributions volunteers make:
“Volunteers are the backbone of our communities, stepping up every day to address challenges with compassion, creativity, and dedication. We encourage everyone to nominate those who embody the spirit of volunteerism so we can celebrate their incredible impact and share their inspiring stories with others.”
Kellie Duhon, Chair of the Volunteer Louisiana Commission and Corporate Giving Program Manager at Louisiana Blue, emphasized the transformative power of service:
“Every day, we see how acts of service – big or small – can transform lives, foster resilience, and inspire hope for future generations. This is your opportunity to recognize individuals, groups, and corporate volunteers who go above and beyond to make Louisiana a better place for everyone.”
