BOSSIER CITY, La. — Dr. Matthew Hefner of WK Precision Neurosurgery has performed his 250th robotic spine surgery using the Globus ExcelsiusGPS system, a technology designed to assist surgeons with navigation during spinal procedures.
Hefner became the first physician in the area to offer ExcelsiusGPS for spinal fusion patients in July 2023, according to Willis Knighton. He specializes in surgical treatment of brain and spinal disorders, with a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery.
The robotic navigation system functions similarly to GPS technology, helping surgeons plan and guide the placement of instruments and implants during procedures. Its use can support less invasive approaches to some spine surgeries.

The technology can be used for patients undergoing lumbar or thoracic fusion procedures and for conditions including degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, trauma and fractures, and scoliosis.
