SHREVEPORT – The third annual Women in LeadHERship Conference at LSU Shreveport is quickly becoming a marquis event for female leaders who wish to invest in themselves and build a sense of community in the region.
The March 20 event in the LSUS Ballroom will feature themes in health, empowerment and resiliency as the conference coincides with women’s history month.
“The Women in LeadHERship Conference has become one of our hallmark community engagement events at LSUS,” said Leigh Chambers, executive director of events and community initiatives. “Each year, we welcome expanded participation and deeper engagement.
“We truly believe that the most important ship you’ll ever steer is your own, and that no matter your title, industry, or stage of life, you are the leader of own destiny.”
People of all backgrounds who are interested in learning about women’s path to leadership, the value of having women in decision-making roles and connecting with fellow leaders will benefit from the slate of topics.
The event attracts women from a wide range of industries and career stages – from ambitious students to established local leaders and entrepreneurs.
“This conference offers so much more than great information – it’s an opportunity to connect, grow, and be inspired,” Chambers said. “Leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all.
“It’s about learning how to chart your own course. Whether it’s gaining new skills, finding affirmation in your choices, or expanding your support network, this event is designed to empower women to become captains of their ships.”
The conference features three keynote speakers in addition to numerous breakout sessions where attendees can share and interact with each other.
Dr. Latora Grant Scott, a registered nurse who went on to acquire a doctorate in public health and operate in holistic wellness practices like yoga, mindfulness and natural supplements, will discuss the cost of constantly putting oneself last.
Scott will deliver “Invisible Exhaustion: The Real Cost of Putting Everyone Else First.”
Dr. Tiffany George-Issac has an accomplished career in healthcare as an advanced practice registered nurse, a faculty member at Southern University in Shreveport and Northwestern State, and owner of Care Partners of Shreveport-Bossier, a health and wellness boutique.
George-Issac will explore how to tap into one’s leadership capabilities in “Permission to Lead: Letting Go of Limits & Leveling Up.”
Lisa Arendell is a body language coach specializing in both verbal and nonverbal communication as well as a behavioral consultant.
The John Maxwell Leadership Trainer will dive into how to bounce back from failure in “Still I Rise: Transforming Setbacks into Comebacks.”
Breakout sessions include topics such as career building, care for the caregiver, and how to build resilience.
Attendees who register by March 14 will get the early-bird price of $79 ($99 normal price). A ticket includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
