BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) issued a statement applauding Governor Jeff Landry’s signing of three critical legal reform bills into law, marking a significant step toward improving the state’s legal climate and supporting economic growth.
The bills—HB 431, HB 434, and HB 450—represent a major victory for Louisiana employers seeking fairness and transparency in the state’s civil justice system. LABI President and CEO Will Green issued the following statement on behalf of the organization:
“On behalf of our members, LABI has long championed the need for comprehensive legal reform to address Louisiana’s deeply imbalanced civil justice system and improve the state’s business climate, rejecting the piecemeal, diluted approaches that have failed to deliver meaningful change.”
Green emphasized that these reforms are a key component of LABI’s LA Driven strategic plan—a long-term effort to create a more competitive legal environment for businesses across the state.
“The goal of this approach was not to reinvent the wheel; it was driven by data and laws that have proven successful in other states,” said Green. “We thank Governor Landry for signing these important bills and extend our sincere thanks to the lawmakers who demonstrated courage and commitment to get their bills across the finish line: Rep. Emily Chenevert, Rep. Jason DeWitt, and Rep. Michael Melerine.”
Green also acknowledged that more work remains to be done:
“Critical pieces of legislation are still moving through the process. It is imperative that lawmakers continue the momentum and pass these final measures. Soaring insurance premiums have long threatened Louisiana businesses and families. Reining in lawsuit abuse is essential to creating a business climate that attracts investment and fosters job growth.”
LABI affirmed its continued commitment to the legal reform effort, stating that the organization will assess progress, address remaining barriers, and advocate for ongoing improvements to Louisiana’s legal system.
