Organizations Encouraged to Apply for Up to $10,000 in Funding
In a move that promises to create cleaner, greener, and more vibrant communities across the state—including right here in Northwest Louisiana—Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) has officially opened applications for three of its flagship grant programs: the Greener Grounds Grant, the Healthy Communities Grant, and the Beautification Grant. With funding opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, these grants are designed to empower local governments, nonprofits, and community organizers to take action against litter, promote environmental stewardship, and transform public spaces.
Each of the three grant programs addresses specific community needs, from event-based waste management to long-term beautification efforts.
Greener Grounds Grant: Sustainable Solutions for Major Events
Large-scale outdoor events such as fairs, music festivals, and community celebrations are beloved parts of Louisiana culture—but they can also generate significant waste. The Greener Grounds Grant, offering up to $10,000 per award, aims to change that by helping event organizers implement best practices in litter prevention, recycling, and waste reduction.
Eligible applicants include municipalities, parishes, and nonprofit organizations that plan to host events with more than 1,000 attendees between September 2025 and May 2026. The grant may fund waste station supplies, signage, educational materials, and volunteer support.
“This is a great opportunity for festivals in Northwest Louisiana—like the Red River Revel or Highland Jazz and Blues Festival—to apply sustainability measures while reducing cleanup costs,” said a local event organizer familiar with the program.
The deadline to apply is June 20, 2025.
Healthy Communities Grant: Targeting Long-Term Impact
For parishes, cities, schools, and nonprofits looking to create broader environmental change, the Healthy Communities Grant offers between $2,500 and $10,000 to fund programs centered on litter prevention, recycling, education, and enforcement. These grants prioritize projects that bring together community stakeholders and encourage behavioral changes toward environmental responsibility.
Past recipients have used Healthy Communities funding to launch recycling programs, hold litter sweeps, and install community waste bins. Here in Northwest Louisiana, the grant could bolster initiatives already underway in Bossier, Shreveport, and Minden to combat illegal dumping and improve neighborhood aesthetics.
Applications are open now and must be submitted by June 20, 2025. Projects must be completed by May 1, 2026.
Beautification Grant: Investing in Visual Impact
Finally, the Beautification Grant provides $1,000 to $10,000 in reimbursement funding for high-visibility landscaping and beautification projects. The goal is to enhance public spaces—especially entry points into towns and highly trafficked roadways—to instill community pride and deter littering.
Eligible applicants are Louisiana parishes and municipalities. Projects must be completed by May 22, 2026, and include at least 25% native Louisiana plants.
Local leaders in Bossier Parish, Webster Parish, and Natchitoches may find this grant to be a practical solution for upgrading intersections, medians, or parks while fostering civic pride and promoting tourism.
Why It Matters for Northwest Louisiana
Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser emphasized the importance of local action:
“Residents and visitors don’t want to experience a dirty state, so we must continue to prioritize making Louisiana a cleaner, greener place to live,” Nungesser said. “I’m grateful to our state legislature for supporting litter abatement, allowing us to implement grant opportunities to benefit our local communities.”
Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB, added:
“Through these three grant programs, KLB intends to empower local communities and organizations to take pride in place and take steps toward protecting and enhancing our Sportsman’s Paradise.”
These grants are especially timely for communities in Northwest Louisiana that are balancing growth with environmental management. With limited local budgets and rising interest in eco-conscious practices, KLB’s funding could serve as a vital catalyst for visible, meaningful change.
