BATON ROUGE, La. – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) is partnering with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to expand efforts during Love the Boot Week, which will take place from April 5-13, 2025. This year’s initiative will increase litter removal, recycling, and landfill diversion across the state.
“We thank DOTD for their efforts to support a cleaner Louisiana during Love the Boot Week and throughout the year,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “I encourage event organizers to drop off recycling from their litter cleanups so we can work together to keep bottles and cans out of the landfill.”
Expanded Recycling and Cleanup Efforts
DOTD will provide 21 regional drop-off sites for number one plastic bottles and aluminum cans collected during Love the Boot Week events. This initiative, supported by Coca-Cola and the Osprey Initiative, expands recycling to 27 parishes, up from 15 last year. In 2024, Love the Boot recycling efforts collected 13,891 aluminum cans and plastic bottles from 62 sites.
Participating parishes include: Acadia, Ascension, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, DeSoto, East Baton Rouge, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Jefferson, Lafayette, Livingston, Orleans, Ouachita, Plaquemines, Rapides, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Vermilion.
“All DOTD regional offices will participate in Love the Boot Week by picking up litter daily,” said DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue. “Each year, DOTD spends upward of $13 million on litter removal. The key to a cleaner Louisiana is raising awareness and encouraging residents to take responsibility for waste disposal.”
During Love the Boot Week 2024, DOTD removed 152,475 pounds of litter at more than 10 cleanup sites statewide, earning the Outstanding State Agency Award from KLB and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.
