WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a sweeping legislative move late Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a comprehensive reconciliation package that Speaker Mike Johnson hailed as a cornerstone of the America First agenda. The bill now advances to the Senate for consideration.
In a statement following the vote, Speaker Johnson emphasized the legislation’s wide-ranging impact on economic, national security, and governance policy.
“The media and the Democrats have consistently dismissed any possibility of House Republicans succeeding in our mission to enact President Trump’s America First agenda. Once again, they have been proven wrong,” said Speaker Johnson. “Today, the House has passed generational, nation-shaping legislation that reduces spending, permanently lowers taxes for families and job creators, secures the border, unleashes American energy dominance, restores peace through strength, and makes government work more efficiently and effectively for all Americans.”
House Republicans passed the legislation without Democratic support, prompting Johnson to further criticize the opposing party’s stance.
“House Democrats voted against all of it — which clearly proves they want tax hikes on their constituents, open borders, and Medicaid for illegal immigrants,” he added.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act bundles numerous policy priorities long championed by Republicans, including permanent tax cuts, a restructured federal regulatory framework, increased border security funding, and incentives to ramp up domestic energy production.
Supporters describe the bill as a defining piece of legislation that delivers on promises made during the 2024 election cycle. Detractors argue that the sweeping scope of the bill risks undermining debate and oversight on its individual provisions.
The legislation now heads to the Senate, where its path forward remains uncertain. However, Johnson signaled readiness to continue advancing the agenda in collaboration with the Senate and the White House.
“We look forward to the Senate’s timely consideration of this once-in-a-generation legislation and stand ready to continue our work together to deliver The One Big Beautiful Bill to the President’s desk,” Johnson said.
