BATON ROUGE, La. — Entergy Louisiana said it has restored service to all customers who can safely receive power following a winter storm that brought freezing temperatures, heavy ice and strong winds across North Louisiana.
The company reported that more than 130,000 customers were affected by the storm, which caused repeated outages as ice continued to weigh down trees and power lines. Many customers experienced multiple interruptions as crews made repairs in difficult conditions.
Rural and heavily wooded areas were among the hardest hit, the company said. Crews faced hazardous conditions, including icy roadways and fallen trees, while rebuilding sections of the grid.
“Our goal is always to restore power as safely and as quickly as possible for the communities we serve,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “This storm presented unique challenges, but we’re grateful to have every customer restored and are applying lessons learned to strengthen our response for future events.”
More than 4,400 lineworkers, contractors and support personnel worked through subfreezing temperatures to repair damaged equipment and rebuild the system, sometimes returning to the same locations as conditions worsened.
Entergy Louisiana activated its emergency response plan before the storm, staging crews, materials and equipment across the state and coordinating with mutual assistance teams from across the country and Canada.
The company thanked customers for their patience and recognized the efforts of state and local partners during the response.
Entergy Louisiana, a subsidiary of Entergy Corp. (NYSE: ETR), provides electricity to more than 1.1 million customers in 58 parishes across the state.
