SHREVEPORT, La. — The Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will host a special event on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, 400 Edwards Street, to honor key moments in the city’s history and officially begin the countdown to its bicentennial.
The event will commemorate three major milestones:
- 190 Years Since the Signing of the Caddo Treaty — Recognized as the founding of Shreveport
- 40 Years Since the 1985 Sesquicentennial — A year-long celebration led by then-Mayor John B. Hussey
- Kickoff of the 10-Year Countdown to Shreveport’s Bicentennial in 2035
The celebration will be emceed by local historians and content creators Mark and Mike Mangham of Twin Blends. A Downtown Reception will follow, honoring individuals, businesses, and institutions that have helped shape the city.

- Grand Honoree Presentation
Former Shreveport Mayor John B. Hussey, who led the 1985 Sesquicentennial, will be recognized and will formally launch the Bicentennial countdown. - Recognition of Legacy Contributors
Honorees will include organizations and individuals making a lasting impact on Downtown Shreveport. - Historic Reflection
Historian Dr. Gary Joiner will offer a look back at Shreveport’s history and share insights as the city looks toward the future.
The event is open to the public and will mark the beginning of a decade-long journey toward Shreveport’s 200th anniversary in 2035.
