BIENVILLE PARISH, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is moving forward with its $5.7 million rural bridge replacement project, announcing that the second bridge site on LA 507 near the Village of Castor in Bienville Parish will close for construction starting Monday, January 6, 2025.
The closure, located approximately 0.5 miles southwest of the intersection of LA 507, LA 4, and LA 153, is expected to last approximately eight months. The project will involve the full removal and replacement of the bridge over an unnamed waterway.
Traffic and Safety Information
The closure will result in a total road closure, requiring motorists to use alternate routes. Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers safely around the construction zone. DOTD reminds all drivers to exercise caution near active work areas and to be mindful of construction crews and equipment.
Project Overview
This bridge closure is part of a larger initiative announced in October 2024 to replace six rural bridges in Red River and Bienville Parishes. The project includes structures along LA 507, LA 514, and a locally owned route, and is slated for completion by Spring 2028, depending on weather and other factors.
The first phase of the project began with the closure of the Minden Road bridge over Stanley Creek south of Womack in Red River Parish in October 2024. Like the Castor site, that closure is anticipated to last eight months, with work progressing weather permitting.
Community Impact
“These rural bridges are critical to the transportation network for residents, businesses, and travelers in Red River and Bienville Parishes,” a DOTD spokesperson said. “The replacement of these aging structures will ensure safe and reliable routes for years to come. We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to improve this vital infrastructure.”
