SHREVEPORT, La. — The Downtown Development Authority will host the Holiday Edition of Extend Your Day with the DDA on Thursday, December 18, at the Capri Theatre, marking the venue’s return as an active part of downtown Shreveport’s cultural and economic landscape.
The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Capri Theatre, located at 620 Milam Street. The building originally opened in 1911 as the Saenger Theatre and was later renamed the Capri Theatre in 1967. After serving as a prominent nightlife destination through the 1980s, the property remained largely inactive for several decades before its recent revival under the direction of John Lomax and his team.
The DDA said the reopening of the Capri Theatre reflects broader momentum in downtown Shreveport, driven by ongoing private investment, residential development and adaptive reuse of historic properties.
Programming for the holiday event will include music by DJ Ready Roc, food provided by Bon Asian and Krue Events, and a cash bar. Door prizes will also be offered, with attendees encouraged to arrive early to register.
Residential property managers operating in downtown Shreveport will be recognized during the event for their role in maintaining occupancy levels and supporting continued growth in the downtown core. The DDA will also highlight current and future initiatives focused on strengthening the area, including efforts to establish a Downtown Shreveport campus of the Southern University Law Center.
Extend Your Day with the DDA is part of an ongoing series designed to bring together stakeholders, residents and visitors while showcasing development progress and future plans for downtown Shreveport.
