BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler formally announced his selection of Blair Bockhaus as the city’s next fire chief during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Bockhaus will succeed Fire Chief Brad Zagone, who recently retired after leading the department to a Class 1 fire protection rating, the highest designation issued by the Insurance Services Office.
According to the mayor, the selection followed a competitive process that included multiple qualified candidates. Bockhaus brings more than 21 years of service with the Bossier City Fire Department and currently serves as administrative EMS supervisor.
In addition to his departmental leadership experience, Bockhaus has worked as a paramedic for more than 18 years and previously served as a SWAT medic with the Bossier City Police Department’s SWAT team.
Chandler said he delayed announcing the appointment until after Zagone’s retirement recognition to avoid diverting attention from his predecessor’s tenure and contributions to the city.
Public safety remains a central priority for the Chandler administration, and the mayor said he is confident the department will maintain its standing under Bockhaus’ leadership.
The timing of the transition follows Zagone’s departure after overseeing sustained improvements in fire protection and departmental performance for the city.
