WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and Steve Daines (R-MT), along with 10 Republican colleagues, have reintroduced the Supporting Made in America Energy Act, a bill designed to bolster domestic energy production, protect jobs, and enhance U.S. energy independence.

The legislation mandates that the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) hold:
- Four onshore oil and gas lease sales annually in the country’s top-producing states.
- Two annual offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Six lease sales over a ten-year period in Alaska’s Cook Inlet.
A Boost for Louisiana’s Energy Sector
“Louisiana fuels the world,” said Sen. Cassidy. “When we unleash American energy, we are supporting our allies, keeping Louisianans employed, and strengthening our economy. This bill will help us do that.”
The measure is expected to revitalize the Gulf Coast’s energy economy, ensuring the continued flow of royalty revenue that funds coastal restoration efforts in Louisiana under the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA).
National Energy Strategy Shift
Sen. Daines emphasized the need to reset energy policy and move away from restrictions imposed by the previous administration.
“Now that we have a President who supports our energy industry instead of pushing a radical environmental agenda, it’s time to get to work on real change to unleash American energy and ensure that we remain dominant on the world stage,” Daines said.
The legislation aligns with broader efforts to expand oil and gas development, create high-paying energy sector jobs, and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign energy sources.
Bipartisan Support for Energy Expansion
Cassidy and Daines were joined by Senators Roger Marshall (R-KS), Jim Risch (R-ID), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Tim Sheehy (R-MT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Mike Crapo (R-ID), John Curtis (R-UT), John Barrasso (R-WY), and John Hoeven (R-ND) in introducing the bill.
Background and Energy Policy Outlook
Cassidy has been a leading voice in shaping U.S. energy policy, having introduced the Offshore Energy Security Act of 2025, which requires the DOI to hold two offshore oil and gas lease sales per year for a decade.
In response to energy restrictions under the Biden administration, Cassidy also introduced the WHALE Act, pushing back against efforts to limit Outer Continental Shelf development.
What’s Next?
The Supporting Made in America Energy Act is expected to gain strong support from industry stakeholders and energy-producing states, as lawmakers push for policies that will keep America’s energy sector competitive in the global market.
