(The Center Square) — An income statement through April 30 showed that Caddo Parish collected $1.42 million less in revenues than the same time last year.
The parish predicted revenue collections of $19.4 million, but the year to date actual revenue was less at $18.3 million. Significant revenue sources include ad valorem (property) taxes, licenses and permits, oil and gas severance tax and sports wagering.
Licenses and permit revenue surpassed the budget in three areas. The parish collected $20,075 from liquor licenses, which was $5,075 more than budget, $6,058 from beer licenses ($1,058 more than budget) and occupational licenses surpassed most of the three with $333,373, surpassing the budgeted amount by $58,373.
The report also detailed different expenses made by the parish, which included the Caddo Correctional Center.
Different facility and maintenance expenses vary. The Caddo Correctional Center budgeted $4.7 million in facility and maintenance expenses for the year and spent around $693,275 so far.
Statutory appropriations for the Caddo Correctional Center were a bit higher in budgeted expenses. The parish budgeted $8.1 million for clothing linen and personal supplies, feeding and housing prisoners, transporting prisoners and prisoner medical care. The largest expense of those has gone to prisoner medical care year to date. The center has spent $1 million on medical care for incarcerated individuals.
The Detention Facilities Fund and the Juvenile Justice Fund are projected to have a loss.
The Detention Facilities Fund was budgeted to bring in about $12.6 million in revenue but predicted $14.1 million budgeted in expenses. This is a $1.5 million anticipated loss. Last year, the report showed a $2 million gain between $14 million in revenue and $12 million in expenses. So far, for the year, the Detention Facilities Fund has $16,580 in revenue and has spent $2.3 million.
Another projected loss is for the Juvenile Justice Fund of around $1.2 million, but year-to-date actual shows a $2.1 million loss so far, with the Juvenile Justice fund having collected $124,000 year-to-date but spending $2.2 million so far. Last year, there was a gain of $973,000 for the fund.
