In Shreveport, recruitment and retention aren’t just buzzwords. They represent our commitment to creating a city people want to move to, stay in, raise families in—and build careers in. As we look toward sustainable growth, we’re proud to highlight recent achievements that show how we are winning on all fronts: economic climate, community development, and long-term sustainability.
First, the economic climate in Shreveport is improving in ways that matter to both enterprises and individuals. Our city government has focused on making Shreveport a center for development in North Louisiana. We’re leveraging our strategic location at the crossroads of major interstates and waterways, and investing in logistics, infrastructure, and workforce training. As part of this, we’ve promoted incentives and business-friendly policies that support startups, expansions, and relocations. Major announcements—like the Amazon Distribution Center, G-Unit Studios at StageWorks, expanded manufacturing operations, and the addition of SkyWest Airlines at Shreveport Regional Airport—are translating into real jobs and new opportunities for residents.
But building a strong economy is only part of the equation. Retention depends on quality of life and community sustainability. That means everything from neighborhoods you’re proud of, to services that work, to culture you can engage with. Under my administration, we’ve pushed forward with programs like Block-by-Block to address blight, clean up neighborhoods, and make streets safer and more inviting. In 2024, Shreveport voters also approved a major bond proposal, which is already allowing us to tackle long-deferred infrastructure projects like street repairs, drainage improvements, and water and sewer upgrades. These investments not only improve daily life for residents, but they make our city more attractive for businesses considering Shreveport as their home.
Public safety remains a top priority in creating a city people want to stay in. We have invested in new technology, additional personnel, and the construction of modern police substations to bring officers closer to the communities they serve. These improvements strengthen both safety and trust, ensuring Shreveport is not just growing—but growing responsibly.
Education is another cornerstone of our recruitment and retention strategy. We are fortunate to have LSU Shreveport, Southern University at Shreveport, Centenary College, Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College, and other institutions providing both academic excellence and a pipeline of skilled graduates. Recently, LSU Shreveport’s baseball team captured an undefeated national championship (59-0)—a remarkable achievement that is shining a national spotlight on our city and drawing students from across the country. Our goal is to match this academic and athletic momentum with job opportunities here at home, so that talented young people not only come to Shreveport, but choose to stay.
Local achievements are making headlines, but they are also quietly improving lives every day: from more efficient permitting processes for small businesses, to infrastructure investments that touch every neighborhood, to stronger public-private partnerships that drive community progress.
Looking forward, our strategy centers on continued collaboration—with businesses, educational institutions, nonprofits, and the people who call Shreveport home. We must continue to highlight what makes us special: affordability, cultural richness, geographic advantage, and strong community spirit.
We want people not just to visit Shreveport, but to stay, to build their lives here, open businesses, raise children, and create legacies. Retention starts with welcoming growth; recruitment begins with showing what “home” truly means. Together, we will continue building a Shreveport that not only attracts people—but keeps them.
