BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) has been awarded a second-year renewal of its TANF/FITAP grant, reinforcing the college’s leadership in education-based support services across North Louisiana. The grant, administered in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), enables BPCC to continue operating the only program of its kind in the state—one that supports education, job training, and wraparound services for families working toward self-sufficiency.
The initiative directly aligns with Governor Jeff Landry’s “One-Door” initiative, which aims to streamline access to education, workforce training, and human services for Louisiana families in need.
Through the Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP), eligible BPCC students gain access to short-term support and long-term career opportunities, including industry-based credentials, college degrees, and professional development. The program has already served more than 60 students in its first year, offering a lifeline to individuals seeking stability and advancement.
“BPCC is honored to be the only college in the state leading this kind of work,” said Vaquetta Hudson, TANF Student Success Coordinator. “This program is about building futures and impacting our communities. We’re connecting students with skills, resources, and momentum to reach their goals.”
One of those students, Brittany Pea, shared how the program has helped her turn her life around following incarceration.
“After spending several years incarcerated, I felt hopeless, but BPCC gave me purpose,” said Pea. “Now I’m studying surgical technology to help patients like my grandmother, who never healed properly after a car accident. I want to be part of the solution for my community.”
The grant supports BPCC’s vision to integrate education, workforce, and support systems—a vision echoed by college leadership.
“This grant is more than funding – it’s a gateway,” said Dr. Teresa Jones, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Services. “It brings the Governor’s ‘One-Door’ vision to life, uniting education, workforce training, and wraparound services into a seamless support system.”
The TANF/FITAP initiative remains a cornerstone of BPCC’s mission to drive economic mobility and transform communities through education. The program is education-centered and community-focused, ensuring access to career pathways for individuals and families facing economic barriers.
