BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier Parish Community College has opened a new Counseling Center designed to promote student mental health, wellness, and overall well-being. The center offers private spaces for one-on-one sessions with licensed mental health professionals and includes a sensory room to help students manage stress while on campus.
The sensory room provides a calming environment where students can journal, participate in counseling-based activities, and take short mental breaks from academic and personal pressures.
“Our students are balancing academics, work, family responsibilities, and personal challenges every day. Supporting their mental health is not optional. It’s essential,” said Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman Jr. “This center ensures our students have access to the support they need, when they need it, and in an environment designed with their well-being in mind.”
The Counseling Center was funded through a Mental Health Grant awarded to all Louisiana Community and Technical College System institutions to enhance campus mental health initiatives.
Campus Counselor Emily Holloway said the number of students seeking support has increased, emphasizing the importance of accessible and proactive mental health services. “This space will continue to provide free mental health services and offer a safe, supportive environment when life feels overwhelming,” Holloway said. “BPCC prides itself on being a Caring Campus, and this Counseling Center marks another important step toward advancing that commitment.”
