BOSSIER CITY, LA – Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) and the BPCC Foundation have announced the establishment of a $50,000 endowed scholarship aimed at supporting first-generation college students. The Karen S. Moore Endowed Scholarship for First-Generation College Students was made possible through the generosity and vision of Gary and Karen Moore.
The Moores have been dedicated supporters of BPCC for over 30 years. Karen Moore joined the BPCC faculty as a math instructor in the 1983-1984 academic year after a decade of teaching in Bossier Parish Public Schools. She later became chair of the BPCC Division of Math & Technology in 1995, serving in that role until 1999. In July 1999, she was promoted to Associate Professor of Mathematics, where she continued to teach and mentor students until her retirement in 2010.
To commemorate the scholarship, BPCC hosted a special reception honoring the Moore family. Their commitment to education and philanthropic spirit will provide ongoing support for deserving students, leaving a lasting legacy at BPCC.
“The impact of this generous endowment will be felt for generations, providing opportunities for first-generation college students to achieve their academic and career goals,” said BPCC officials.
