The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a new phone scam making its way through the parish, with fraudsters impersonating law enforcement officials in an attempt to extort money.
According to detectives, the scammers identify themselves as “Josh Cathcart” or “Mike Smith” and claim to be associated with badge number 8. Victims report that the caller falsely accuses them of missing a scheduled court appearance and insists that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The scammer then demands payment to avoid jail time.
Authorities emphasize that the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office does not contact individuals by phone to demand payment for fines or solicit money.
Residents are urged to remain cautious and avoid providing any personal or financial information over the phone. If you or someone you know has been targeted by this scam, you should report the incident immediately by contacting the Bossier Sheriff’s Office at (318) 965-3418 or (318) 965-2203.
