BOSSIER PARISH, La. — The Bossier Parish Police Jury voted to return a proposal that would designate Woodlake South as a golf cart community to the neighborhood’s homeowners association for further review and a formal vote by residents.
The proposal would permit the use of electric golf carts on neighborhood streets, subject to requirements that drivers be licensed and that vehicles be registered, insured and equipped with safety features including lights and mirrors. Parish officials said the issue has drawn increased attention as communities consider expanded use of golf carts on local roadways.
In other business, Police Jury President Tom Salzer acknowledged the victims of a June 15 military aircraft crash and announced that flags would be flown at half-staff at the Bossier Parish Courthouse. The directive follows an executive order honoring eight individuals who died in the crash of a B-52H Stratofortress during a training mission.
Salzer said the parish joins communities nationwide in mourning the loss. Flags of the United States, Louisiana and Bossier Parish began flying at half-staff at noon on June 17 as a mark of respect.
Separately, the Bossier Central Library’s new history center has reached substantial completion, according to Library Director Marisa Richardson. Final construction items are expected to be addressed in the coming days, after which staff will begin installing artifacts and preparing exhibits.
A soft opening of the history center is anticipated in early July. The facility will include exhibits focused on Bossier Parish history, including displays on the Caddo Nation, the Red River and early regional development. Features will include a mural, interactive map, diorama and historical structures.
The project represents an expansion of local cultural and educational resources as parish officials continue to invest in community infrastructure.
