BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bonvenu Bank has named James “Jim” Hudson president and appointed him to its board of directors, while longtime Shreveport businessman Mark E. Porter will become board chairman.
Jason Smith, who has served as both president and chief executive officer, will continue as CEO. The Louisiana-based community bank announced the leadership changes Sept. 29.
Hudson currently serves as Bonvenu’s Southeast Louisiana area president. In his new role, he brings more than four decades of banking experience, including previous service as a bank president and CEO.
Smith will remain responsible for the bank’s overall strategic direction, financial performance and long-term growth.
“Jim brings extensive banking experience, a deep understanding of Louisiana markets and a proven record of leadership to the presidency,” Smith said. “Mark has been an outstanding director and community leader, and I look forward to working with him as Chairman as we continue building on the success of Bonvenu.”
Hudson joined Bonvenu in 2021 as regional president. His career includes leadership positions with First National Bankers Bank, Iberia Bank, OMNI Bank and OMNI Bancshares Inc., with experience in commercial lending, business development, strategic planning and bank operations.

Hudson’s civic and business involvement has included leadership with the Jefferson Business Council, East Jefferson General Hospital, GNO Inc., the Jefferson Economic Development Corporation and the Louisiana Bankers Association.
Porter has served on Bonvenu’s board since 2018. A lifelong resident of Caddo and Bossier parishes, he brings more than four decades of business and community leadership to the chairmanship.
A 1980 Louisiana Tech University graduate, Porter joined his family’s business, Porter’s Fine Dry Cleaners, in 1983 and later expanded its operations. He founded Porter’s Industrial in 1998 and has been a real estate investor since 1980.
His community service includes terms as president of the Red River Revel and the Better Business Bureau, along with board service for the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries and Louisiana Tech’s College of Business. He founded Coats for Kids in 1988 and has participated in the St. Jude Dream Home project for more than 30 years.

Bonvenu provides personal and commercial banking services across Louisiana. The bank said the leadership changes support its continued growth, including its expansion in South Louisiana.
