Shreveport, LA — BIZ Magazine has launched a new official Facebook page after its previous page was hijacked by a foreign entity, cutting off the publication’s access to its audience. The new page can be found at facebook.com/SBBIZMag.
According to Publisher David A. Specht Jr., repeated attempts were made to work with Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to regain control of the hijacked page. When those efforts were unsuccessful, the decision was made to establish a new, secure page to reconnect with readers.
“After multiple attempts to work with Meta to regain control of the page, we felt it would be in the best interest of our readers and followers to rebuild the page from scratch,” Specht said.
The incident reflects a growing problem for businesses on social media. Reports show that more than 1.4 billion social media accounts are compromised every month, and business pages are frequent targets due to their large audiences and advertising capabilities. Recovering access is often difficult, with Meta criticized for slow or limited responses to business owners’ requests for assistance.
Cybersecurity experts recommend that businesses protect their social media accounts with two-factor authentication, strong passwords, and regular monitoring for unusual activity. Organizations are also encouraged to claim ownership of their pages through Meta Business Suite to provide an added layer of control.
BIZ Magazine is urging readers and business leaders across Northwest Louisiana to follow its new Facebook page to continue receiving the latest business news and updates.
