BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. — The 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base will host a change of command ceremony on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Hoban Hall. The ceremony will mark the official transfer of command from Col. Michael Maginness to Col. Chris Cain.
Col. Cain, a native of Bossier City, returns to familiar ground as he assumes leadership of one of the U.S. Air Force’s most critical strategic units. Having spent more than half of his career at Barksdale, Cain most recently served as deputy inspector general for Air Force Global Strike Command. He brings with him more than 2,800 flying hours, including over 300 in combat, along with a strong background in bomber operations and strategic command.
Col. Maginness has led the 2nd Bomb Wing since 2023. He retires following more than 20 years of distinguished service in the United States Air Force.
The 2nd Bomb Wing is a key component of the Air Force’s strategic deterrence mission, operating the B-52H Stratofortress and providing combat-ready aircrews and support personnel for global operations.
