SHREVEPORT, La. — With just weeks to go before one of the region’s most anticipated art events, organizers are reminding the public that Artport 2025: In Southern Dimension will debut Thursday, June 5, with a free Opening Night Reception at Shreveport Regional Airport.
Now in its 16th edition, Artport transforms the airport into a revolving public gallery featuring work from over 80 local and regional artists. The event, which was first announced in March, marks the return of the acclaimed exhibition after a nearly decade-long hiatus. Following the June 5 preview, the show’s featured works will remain on display throughout the airport over a three-year rotation.
This year’s theme, “In Southern Dimension,” highlights the history, culture, and creative spirit of the Shreveport-Bossier area. The Opening Night event runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., offering guests live entertainment by Windstorm, hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and the opportunity to purchase original and limited-edition art.
Admission and valet parking are free and open to the public. Guests can also participate in a Silent Auction benefitting Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ), featuring one-of-a-kind art tiles, decorated bourbon bottles, and autographed items from celebrities such as Hugh Jackman and James Burton.
Artport was originally founded in 1990 by Lewis Kalmbach as part of an airport beautification initiative. It was later revived by Cindy Smith of KSM Marketing, who now leads the event alongside Director Abigail Simmons.
“This Opening Night is the culmination of a year of collaboration and creativity,” Simmons said. “It’s more than an art show — it’s a celebration of who we are as a community.”
