Greater Shreveport Chamber earns 5 Star Accreditation from U.S. Chamber of Commerce

by BIZ Magazine

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce awarded the Accreditation designation to 19 chambers of commerce for their sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on their communities. The Greater Shreveport Chamber was awarded a five-year 5 Star accreditation, the highest designation available to local Chambers of Commerce.

Raymond P. Towle, U.S. Chamber Vice President, Federation Relations and IOM, said,  “When chambers of commerce earn the distinction of becoming Accredited, it is a mark of excellence for the organization, its staff, and its leadership.  This rigorous review includes all aspects of a chamber’s policies, operations, and programming, and Accredited chambers are recognized for their ability to serve as a resource to their region’s businesses while maintaining transparent governance practices, sound financial controls, safe work environments, effective communications, and value in programming.  They are commended for their continued advocacy of free enterprise, and for their commitment to serving members and their local businesses.  Congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment.”

The Greater Shreveport Chamber received its initial 5 Star Accreditation in 2008 and has successfully maintained this distinction since that time.

“Receiving this designation is an important recognition of our ongoing effort to serve our community,” said Roy Prestwood, Chamber Chairman of the Board. “This important feat reflects the continuity of our leadership and our continued commitment to excellence.”

The U.S. Chamber’s Accreditation Program facilitates continuing excellence in the chamber industry and fosters a pro-business environment across America. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, communications, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 6-9 months to complete.

“The Accreditation process allows us to re-examine all aspects of our operation and ensure that we are doing the best we can for our members, and for our community,” stated Dr. Tim Magner, President of the Chamber. “It also reflects the dedication and tireless efforts of our Chamber staff and the impact that our Board leadership has in continuing the proud traditions and service orientation of our 113-year-old organization.”
