Greater Shreveport Chamber announces Suzanne Linn Tinsley as ATHENA recipient

The Greater Shreveport Chamber has named Suzanne Linn Tinsley, PhD, PT as the 2023 ATHENA International Leadership Award recipient at our 33rd Annual ATHENA Leadership Award Luncheon, presented by Chase Bank held on November 8th, 2023. 

“We are delighted to recognize Dr. Tinsley as the 2023 ATHENA recipient,” said Dr. Timothy Magner, President of the Greater Shreveport Chamber. “Dr. Tinsley exemplifies the best in our community as an academic leader, an innovative researcher, a mentor to many and a caring and compassionate physician to her patients.” 

Dr. Suzanne Tinsley is the Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Advancement and Assistant Director for the Center for Brain Health at LSU Health Shreveport. Dr. Tinsley is a trailblazer and a pioneer in her chosen healthcare field. 

She was the first Board Certified Neurologic Physical Therapist in the State of Louisiana and holds the Richard C. Parks Endowed Professorship in Neurological Rehabilitation as she led the institution’s efforts in neurological rehabilitation. 

Dr. Tinsley’s passion for the people and the community that she serves is undeniable. She is purpose driven to support and empower her patients and students to maximize their long-term potential. Her diverse experiences throughout her journey have fueled her devotion to making a difference and being an inspiration for women in medicine and research, and beyond. 

Dr. Tinsley was selected from among 16 especially accomplished honorees including: Auburn Lynn Brasher, Crystal Elizabeth Creed, Sara Dubberly, Leslie Louviere Keen, Ebony N. Layton, Angel V. Martin, Stacey Smith Melerine, Marie Vazquez Morgan, PhD, PT, Laura-Ashley Overdyke, Africa Gordon Price, Karen Franks Recchia, Kelli Todd, Tina Tomasek, Cheri Leary Williams, APP, and Pat Williams. 

For over 30 years, the Greater Shreveport Chamber has awarded the ATHENA International Leadership Award to individuals for their attainment of the highest level of professional excellence by showing creativity and initiative in their business or profession; who showcase their devotion, time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community in a meaningful way; and demonstrate how they have opened doors for other women to achieve their full potential. In total, over 450 individuals from Shreveport-Bossier have been ATHENA honorees, and Dr. Suzanne Linn Tinsley is the 55th ATHENA International Leadership Award Recipient from our area. Her name will be added to the long list of outstanding professionals from across the globe who have been honored for their dedication to community service, professionalism, and female empowerment.

Since the program’s inception in 1982, more than 8,000 exemplary leaders in over 500 communities have received the prestigious ATHENA Leadership Award in the United States, Bermuda, Canada, China, Greece, India, Russia, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom. By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Leadership Award Program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and personal lives.
