SHREVEPORT, La. — Average gasoline prices in Shreveport fell slightly over the past week even as the national average climbed above $4 a gallon, according to fuel-price tracking service GasBuddy.
Shreveport gasoline prices declined 0.4 cents per gallon during the week to an average of $3.44 per gallon, based on GasBuddy’s survey of 177 stations in the area. Local prices are 7.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago but 77.9 cents higher than a year ago.
The national average rose 7.7 cents per gallon over the past week to $4.02. That is 3.6 cents higher than a month ago and 93.1 cents higher than a year ago.
Diesel prices posted a sharper increase nationally. The average price of diesel rose 14.3 cents from a week earlier to $5.418 per gallon.
GasBuddy reported that Shreveport prices ranged from $3.19 to $3.99 per gallon, an 80-cent spread. Across Louisiana, prices ranged from $3.13 to $4.99 per gallon.
The statewide average was $3.52 per gallon, down 0.5 cents from the previous week. Average prices in neighboring markets moved higher, with Little Rock, Arkansas, rising 11.1 cents to $3.70 per gallon and Dallas increasing 17.5 cents to $3.75.
Shreveport’s current average is also well above the $2.66 per gallon recorded a year ago. Local gasoline averaged $2.91 per gallon in 2024, $3.32 in 2023, $3.29 in 2022 and $2.77 in 2021.
Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, attributed the recent national increase to higher oil prices amid the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.
“While the seasonal transition to cheaper winter-blend gasoline in the coming month could bring some relief, the two dominant challenges facing motorists — the closed Strait and the ongoing refinery strikes — show no signs of resolving anytime soon,” De Haan said. “Until they do, the path for gas and diesel prices remains tilted to the upside.”
GasBuddy calculates its national average using more than 11 million weekly price reports covering more than 150,000 gas stations nationwide.
