SHREVEPORT, La. — Three Shreveport organizations marking their 50th anniversaries will highlight their shared history in a new exhibit opening Aug. 22 at artspace.
The Independence Bowl, Red River Revel and Shreveport Regional Arts Council have partnered on “50-Year Reflection: A Historic Exhibit,” which will run through Oct. 9. The exhibit is curated by Bruce Allen and will feature photographs, memorabilia and other materials documenting the organizations’ histories.
All three organizations were established in 1976 and have become fixtures in Shreveport’s sports, arts and cultural landscape.
The exhibit will focus on people, events and milestones from the organizations’ first five decades, as well as their roles in the development of Shreveport’s cultural community.
“Joining forces with the Red River Revel and Independence Bowl, this showcase is a true celebration of the creativity, passion and pride that define our region,” Shreveport Regional Arts Council Executive Director Rebecca Bonnevier said.
Red River Revel Executive Director Logan Lewis said the organizations share roots in community involvement.
“Each was founded by community members to serve the region’s citizens, and this exhibit reflects that same spirit of community involvement and selfless giving,” Lewis said.
The Independence Bowl was established in 1976, with its 50th-anniversary football game scheduled for Dec. 22. The Red River Revel operates cultural programming in visual and performing arts and produces the annual Red River Revel Arts Festival, among other events. SRAC, founded as the city of Shreveport’s official arts agency, supports artists and arts organizations and operates programs and facilities including artspace and Central ARTstation.
“Our three events and organizations have helped shape the fabric of our community for the past 50 years, and we are excited to reflect and celebrate our collective history at artspace over the next couple of months,” Independence Bowl Executive Director Missy Setters said.
“50-Year Reflection” will be at artspace, 708 Texas St. Admission is free. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
