SHREVEPORT, La. — Ochsner LSU Health will host Health Fest, a free community event focused on improving access to healthcare and promoting wellness for families across Northwest Louisiana.
The event will be held Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverview Hall, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway. The event is open to the public, and registration is not required.
Health Fest will feature free health screenings, educational resources, cooking demonstrations by local chefs, exercise demonstrations from the YMCA and a backpack giveaway while supplies last. Informational sessions will also cover topics including maternal health and navigating a cancer diagnosis.
Family activities will include the Brain Architecture game, an interactive exhibit designed to demonstrate the effects of trauma and chronic stress on brain development and highlight approaches to healing.
Available health screenings will include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and body mass index measurements, as well as dental screenings that include cleanings, sealants and fluoride treatments. Mammograms and cancer screenings, including prostate, colon, cervical, and head and neck screenings, will also be offered.
Ochsner LSU Health said the event is intended to improve healthcare access and support better health outcomes for residents of Shreveport-Bossier and communities throughout North Louisiana.
Ochsner LSU Health is a partnership between Ochsner Health and LSU Health Shreveport. The health system serves more than 162,000 patients across North Louisiana through three acute care hospitals, outpatient facilities and clinics in Shreveport, Bossier and Monroe. It employs more than 4,200 people and includes a physician group of approximately 950 physicians and residents representing more than 75 specialties and subspecialties.
