BOSSIER PARISH, La. — The Bossier Parish Police Jury has been awarded a $1,500 mini grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities to support local initiatives tied to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
The funding will be used to enhance the America 250 Time Capsule display at South Bossier Park and to support commemorative elements during the parish’s Freedom Fest celebration scheduled for July 4.
The time capsule display is intended to serve as a focal point for community engagement, featuring historical artifacts and providing residents an opportunity to contribute materials that reflect life in Bossier Parish. Grant funding will also support additions to Freedom Fest, an annual event that draws local families for holiday activities and entertainment.
Parish Administrator Dr. Ken Ward said the grant will help expand efforts to connect residents with national and local history. “This grant helps us bring history to life in a way that is engaging and meaningful for our residents,” Ward said. “By supporting the Time Capsule display and enhancing Freedom Fest, we are creating opportunities for families to connect with our nation’s story while celebrating our local community.”
The grant is part of a broader America 250 initiative marking the nation’s semiquincentennial. Funding for the program is provided by the state of Louisiana and administered by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities in partnership with the Louisiana Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the America 250 Louisiana State Commission.
