BOSSIER PARISH, La. — The Bossier Parish Police Jury (BPPJ) held its final regular agenda meeting for 2024 on December 18, addressing a wide range of topics, including tourism updates, tax notices, zoning changes, and infrastructure plans.
Tourism and Sports Update
Stacy Brown, President and CEO of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, provided a comprehensive report on the economic impact of tourism and sports in 2024. She also outlined key initiatives planned for 2025, aiming to build on the successes of the past year.
Tax Notice Delay Clarified
Assistant Chief Deputy David Miller of the Bossier Sheriff’s Office spoke to jurors about the recent delay in property tax notices. He reassured residents that an extension has been granted, moving the payment deadline to January 31, 2025. This measure ensures residents have ample time to fulfill their obligations without penalties.
Zoning Changes and Public Hearings
A significant portion of the meeting focused on planning public hearings for the first quarter of 2025 to evaluate applications for zoning changes related to several proposed subdivisions. These hearings will gather community input and address potential impacts on surrounding areas, underscoring the jury’s commitment to transparency and resident engagement in the development process.
Transportation Plan and Growth Management
In response to the parish’s rapid growth, the jury accepted a proposal from Gresham Smith Architecture, Engineering, and Design Firm to develop a comprehensive transportation plan. Police Jury President Philip Rodgers emphasized the importance of strategic planning, stating:
“Next year, we will hold a series of meetings focused on creating a comprehensive plan to effectively manage the significant growth in both residential and commercial properties in Bossier. These discussions will involve the community to ensure that our strategies align with the needs and aspirations of residents and businesses. Our goal is to promote sustainable growth while enhancing the quality of life for all Bossier residents.”
Three-Year Overlay Program
The jury also reviewed the details of the parish’s Three-Year Overlay Program, a major initiative targeting the renovation and resurfacing of Bossier Parish’s 575 miles of paved roads. This program aims to enhance safety and improve drivability for residents and businesses.
