BENTON, La. — Bossier Parish officials are urging residents to prepare for possible flooding by taking steps to protect their homes and property, including obtaining sandbags available at multiple locations across the parish.
The parish announced that sandbag storage containers have been placed at several locations to provide residents with access to flood protection materials as weather conditions warrant.
Sandbags are available at the Bossier Parish Highway Department, located at 410 Mayfield Road in Benton, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Residents may also obtain sandbags at satellite locations throughout the parish.
The additional locations include the Bossier Highway Department yard on Louisiana Highway 157, which is serving as the temporary location for the South Bossier Fire District No. 2 sandbag container, Haughton Fire District No. 1 at 4494 U.S. Highway 80 in Haughton, the Town of Plain Dealing at 205 W. Palmetto St., and the Town of Haughton at 120 W. McKinley Ave.
Parish officials said residents seeking access to the satellite locations should call the phone numbers posted on the sandbag storage bins.
Officials encouraged residents to monitor local weather forecasts and news reports for updates and to take appropriate precautions to protect life and property.
