BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier Parish Community College has been selected as an educational partner for Amazon’s Career Choice program, giving hourly employees at the company’s Shreveport fulfillment center access to workforce training through BPCC’s Industrial Technician certificate program.
The partnership will allow eligible employees at Amazon’s Shreveport 1 (SHV1) facility to enroll in BPCC’s one-semester Career and Technical Certificate in Industrial Technician, a program designed to prepare workers for careers in advanced manufacturing and industrial operations.
The curriculum combines classroom instruction and hands-on training in electricity, fluid power systems and mechanical technologies. Students receive training in circuit analysis, electromagnetism, pneumatic systems, power transmission technology, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman Jr. said the partnership aligns with the college’s mission to provide workforce training that supports both individual career advancement and regional economic development.
The announcement comes as employers across Louisiana and the broader Gulf South continue to seek skilled workers for manufacturing, logistics and industrial operations. Workforce development has become a key focus for educational institutions and economic development organizations seeking to meet growing demand for technical talent.
Amazon’s Career Choice program provides prepaid tuition and educational opportunities for eligible hourly employees. The initiative includes college degree programs, industry certifications and foundational education programs, including high school diploma, GED and English-language learning opportunities.
According to Amazon, educational institutions selected for Career Choice must meet standards related to student support, program quality and career outcomes. The company partners with colleges, universities and training providers that offer credentials aligned with workforce needs and employment opportunities.
Joseph R. Brownlee, BPCC’s executive dean of industry partnerships, said the agreement reflects the college’s ongoing efforts to expand training opportunities that support industrial growth in Northwest Louisiana.
BPCC serves students across Northwest Louisiana through campuses in Bossier City, Natchitoches and Many. The college offers academic transfer programs, technical education and workforce training programs developed in partnership with regional employers.
