SHREVEPORT, La. — Specialists Hospital Shreveport, in partnership with Hand Construction and Hammes, has begun a two-phase expansion and renovation project aimed at increasing surgical capacity and improving operational efficiency at its facility on Line Avenue.
The project includes construction of a 7,100-square-foot addition and renovation of 1,000 square feet of existing space. Planned upgrades feature expanded sterile processing services, a new loading dock and materials management area, and two additional operating rooms.
Hospital officials said the renovation will modernize and reorganize the sterile processing department, with the goal of improving surgical throughput and supporting continued patient volume growth.
“This expansion and renovation will mean better access for our patients,” said Devin Jenkins, chief executive officer of Specialists Hospital Shreveport.
Shreveport-based Hand Construction was selected to lead the project. The firm previously built the original two-story hospital and later added a third floor while maintaining ongoing operations.
“This is a unique project with challenges that require an exceptional level of precision,” said Kyle Hand, vice president of construction services at Hand Construction. “Construction of the new space will take place just inches away from the existing building, which will remain fully operational for surgical procedures throughout the process.”
Hammes, which retains ownership of the facility and provides property management services, is partnering on the project along with Corgan Architects.
“We are proud to partner with Specialists Hospital Shreveport, Hand Construction and Corgan Architects on this expansion and renovation, helping position the hospital for future growth and continued delivery of advanced spine and orthopedic care,” said Steve Buckeridge, senior vice president of Hammes Partners.
Construction will be completed in two phases. The first phase is expected to conclude by the end of the year, with the second phase scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
Hand Construction has completed multiple medical facility projects across the Shreveport-Bossier region over the past four decades.
