BOSSIER CITY, La. — Bossier Parish Community College generates an estimated $501 million in annual economic impact across Northwest Louisiana and supports 6,774 jobs, according to a new economic impact study conducted by Lightcast.
The report positions the college as a significant contributor to regional economic activity and workforce development, with measurable returns for students, taxpayers and the broader economy.
“BPCC is far more than a college. It’s a workforce engine for Northwest Louisiana,” said Dr. Rick Bateman Jr., chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College. “Every dollar invested here delivers real value for our students, our employers, and our taxpayers.”
Strong Return on Investment
The study found that students receive $4.00 in earnings for every $1 invested in their education at BPCC, while taxpayers see a return of $4.20 per dollar invested. The broader societal benefit was estimated at $8.40 for every $1 invested, resulting in nearly $967 million in total statewide economic benefits.
Workforce and Earnings Impact
BPCC alumni contribute $454.9 million in added income to the regional economy annually, according to the report. Graduates earn an average of $10,800 more per year compared with individuals holding only a high school diploma.
The college supports workforce pipelines in key sectors including healthcare, technical services and retail, aligning training programs with regional employer demand.
In addition to alumni earnings, BPCC’s operational spending and student expenditures contribute more than $46 million annually to the local economy.
Regional Economic Role
The college’s total impact accounts for 2.1% of the region’s gross regional product. The study also found that one out of every 38 jobs in Northwest Louisiana is supported by BPCC and its students.
The institution serves parishes including Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne and Webster, contributing to talent retention and regional workforce stability.
Study Methodology
Lightcast, a labor market analytics firm, conducted the analysis using a dataset covering more than 99% of the U.S. workforce. The firm compiles data from government sources, job postings and online employment profiles to assess economic outcomes and workforce alignment.
Community Engagement and Events
BPCC is hosting Community College Week from March 23–27, featuring campus open houses aimed at connecting prospective students with academic programs and career pathways.
The college offers associate degrees, technical diplomas and career certificates in fields including healthcare, computer technology, manufacturing and business.
“When you invest in BPCC, you’re investing directly in Louisiana’s workforce and its future,” Bateman said. “Our mission is simple and unwavering – prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers and deliver meaningful economic value to the communities we proudly serve.”
