RUSTON, La. Brett Mattison, president and chief operating officer of Southwestern Electric Power Company, will speak at Louisiana Tech University’s Inside the C-Suite lecture on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Davis Auditorium. The event, sponsored by Enterprise Mobility, is open to the public.
Mattison, a 1986 Louisiana Tech finance graduate, oversees SWEPCO’s electric distribution system, engineering, operations, construction, and maintenance. The company serves about 547,000 customers across Louisiana, Arkansas, northeast Texas, and the Texas Panhandle.
“Brett has built an outstanding career by doing exactly what we ask of our students solving complex problems, serving others, and leading with integrity,” said Dr. Chris Martin, dean of the College of Business. Martin said Mattison’s progression from finance student to utility executive illustrates the impact of aligning technical skill with service-oriented leadership. “I hope our students will see themselves in his story and leave inspired to pursue leadership roles that make a real difference,” he said.
Inside the C-Suite brings senior executives from national companies to campus to discuss issues shaping corporate decision-making. Speakers address topics that include economic conditions, ethics, corporate responsibility, leadership, globalization, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation.
Mattison joined SWEPCO in 1990 and has held several leadership roles, including director of customer services and marketing, where he managed relationships with the utility’s largest industrial and wholesale customers and oversaw meter services, energy efficiency programs, and process improvement. He previously served as president and chief operating officer of Kentucky Power, a SWEPCO sister company.
His community involvement includes service on the boards of the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Ky., and One East Kentucky, an economic development organization. He is a member of the Louisiana Committee of 100, participates on the advisory council of the Center for Public Utilities, and serves on the AEP talent board and the Louisiana Tech College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board. His past roles include leadership positions with the United Way of Northwest Louisiana, the Bossier Metropolitan Planning Commission, and chambers of commerce in Shreveport and Bossier.
